Roberts was a standout player for Florida Southern College (NCAA II) during his collegiate career. Following graduation, he moved on to play for the Charlotte Eagles of the United Soccer League for three seasons during which the team appeared in three straight USL Championship matches, winning the title in 2005. Roberts has played for the Philadelphia Kixx of the Major Indoor Soccer League for the past three seasons, anchoring the defense of the 2007 MISL Championship team. The following is his favorite activity.

This exercise could either be used as an extended warm-up to a finishing session both for field players and goalkeepers, or a cool-down to end your session with finishing repetitions.

Setup:

6 cones, 2 goals set parallel on goal line 30 yards apart

2 lines X & Y 10 yards apart

Cones are 12 yards apart between X1 & X2, 15 yards between X2 & X3, same for Y

Balls begin behind X1 & Y1

Pattern:

UP=X1, BACK=X2, THROUGH X1-Y3

Alternate the start of balls between X1 & Y1

X1 plays to X2, X2 lays ball one time ball back to X1 who follows his pass forward, X1 plays diagonal one time ball to Y3, Y3 takes one touch towards goal, next touch shot on goal

X1 replaces X2, X2 changes lines and becomes the shooter Y3

Y LINE begins as soon as diagonal through pass is played, same pattern opposite side, Y1-Y2, Y2-Y1, Y1-X3

Alternate lines after shot

                                                   X3                 Y3

                                                  X2                   Y2

|___________|                  X1                   Y1                    |____________|

                              < 10 YDS>   < 10 YDS>     < 10 YDS>

Progression:

(1)  X1-Y3 PASS ON THE GROUND

(2)  X1-Y3 PASS IN THE AIR

(3)  X1-Y3 PASS ON THE GROUND, X2 1-2 WITH Y3, X2 PASS INTO SPACE FOR Y3
